Wonderful American MD-80 Technique and Landing in St. Louis

This is an excerpt from my Puerto Vallarta trip report, which you can watch in complete right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdI3jCfNi1c Given that this landing was so epic, I imagined I’d break it out into its personal video. I have landed in St. Louis more than one hundred occasions in my existence, and I have never ever witnessed an approach fairly like this one. I received to see locations I have been going to my entire life (the Lake of the Ozarks and my hometown of Jefferson City, MO) just before descending in excess of all the western suburbs of St. Louis County. Then, we flew parallel to the airport to circle around and land from the East. Air traffic management sent us way into the city, which meant that Forest Park, the Central West End, Downtown (like the Anheuser Busch brewery), and the Mississippi river were all visible from minimal altitude. We went all the way into Illinois just before turning back to the airport, and the best, clear weather meant the see was magnificent the entire way. It felt like a chartered air tour a lot more than a business flight. For anybody interested in St. Louis’s geography, or truly any individual that likes watching planes land, this was an incredible opportunity to see the entire city in a very distinctive way. I’ve subtitled the video to point out landmarks to folks unfamiliar with the spot.

This flight was inbound from DFW during March of 2015.

  1. American? Let’s call that airline by their real name, NAZI airlines. Every airline that they’ve merged with, they have completely fucked over…Air California, Reno, Eastern’s South America, and of course, TWA. I just hope that USAirways does the same thing to the AA employees, since they are buying American

  2. American is currently phasing these out and will be gone by 2017…. Luckily delta just did major upgrades to their huge MD-88 fleet so they’ll be going for maybe another 10 years

  3. Nice landing, and great job on the trip report btw! I’m catching up on your old videos while doing the dishes. LOL

  4. Cool video! Although lately I would consider Wentzville to be the beginning of the suburbs. It’s gotten pretty built-up over the past decade.

  5. I’m originally from Alton and this video was very nostalgic. MD-80 and STL metro area.

  6. I’m from poplar bluff which is also in Missouri

  7. By the way, I absolutely love that diamond interchange right next to Barnes-Jewish. It’s such an appealing design.

  8. What a great video of STL. Thanks for sharing!!

  9. Wow! I only just discovered this video tonight. As an honorary St. Louisan, it brings a tear to my eye – not just being wistful for the city, but for the Mad Dog, too. This couldn’t have been a better approach.

  10. At 0.45 that’s historic Hermann, MO.
